COPTIC PEOPLE ARE SONS OF THE PHAROHS: The Copts as the successors of the ancient Egyptians are defined as the modern sons of the Pharaohs. They played an essential role in the whole Christian world, especially during the first five centuries. Their religious background helped them to accept Christianity with eagerness and to enjoy its depth through their ascetic life, meditation and studying of the Holy Scripture. In this topic we wish to throw some light on the ancient Egyptian culture and how it reacted towards the new Christian faith. 1- Their religious background: It is well known that nature and upbringing have religiously minded ancient Egyptians since the very early times. Herodotus states that "The Egyptians are religious to excess, far beyond any other race of men." Their religious curiosity was satisfied by the Christian faith that puts no limits to spiritual progress, for it raises the believers towards the bosom of the Father that they might enjoy the likeness of God, fast communion with Him and acknowledgment of the eternal divine mysteries. 2- Their high scientific background: Modern science achieved unceasing progress, particularly in the last century. Many of the ancient Egyptians scientific work which took place thousands of years before Christ are still considered to be obscure secrets; for example the pyramids with their scientific wonder and mysteries, the art of embalming, the art of carving, colored painting on walls etc. All of these arts are still under research to the extent that some believe that the ancient Egyptians were working under the guidance of superhuman (coming from the outer space), or from other stars. Some consider that man would have conquered space much earlier if the library of Alexandria had not been burned, which led to losing scientific secrets of great importance. In any case, the fact is that the ancient Egyptians put their scientific abilities at the disposal of the religious thinking (such as the building of the pyramids, embalming etc.). It had influenced the Copts. They looked to science not as an enemy of religion or contrary to it, but that science acts in favor of religion. Therefore, the school of Alexandria opened its doors to the scholars and philosophers, believing that science and philosophy could serve the true spiritual life. 3- Their religious dogmas: A- Each major town in ancient Egypt used to recognize some kind of a triad. But these triads were too alien from the Christian Holy Trinity. B- Their philosophers believed in One Supreme Being; the best example is King Ikhnaton (1383-1365 B. C.). C- While the majority of the ancient civilizations were preoccupied with the earthly life, seeking temporary pleasures, the Egyptian mind was absorbed in the world to come, and in the resurrection. When they were converted to Christianity, they became involved in awaiting the advent of the Risen Christ, through their lengthy hymns, excessive fasting, enduring and suffering with joy. This eschatological attitude has its effect on our worship, liturgies and even in our daily life. D- The Cross: Egyptians tended to identify the Cross with their own sign of eternal life, "the Ankh," which was held in the hands of the immortals such as gods and pharaohs. The "Ankh" sign took the shape of a cruciform with rounded tip, which was readily adopted and used by the Copts from the very early times. E- In addition to this, the Egyptians seem to have had an idea of the unity of God, His eternity, His infinity, as well as His loving kindness. Dec 22, 2010 - until every black person convert to Tewahedo Orthodox Christianity, black will not have peace. Because they are in this situation in the first place because they didn't obey to God. God instructed them not to worship ideal and they didn't not listen. now they are waking up to the wrongs they ancestors did,BLACKS MUST UNITE. the greek took it from us, no black took anything from any non-blacks. the non-blacks learn, copy, took, and steal from blacks.

CopticLion Says:

Dec 22, 2010 - @waffiki Sorry brother what do u mean? Ethiopia converted to Christian Orthodoxy by Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria in St.Pope Athanasius the Great by Bishop Efremntios (Abouna Salama).....

waffiki Says:

Dec 22, 2010 - @CopticLion that is the wrong history to confuse the blacks. egypt was black to start with, when they were attacked, by the non-black race which they were teaching and helping, the blacks go down south and hide and fight in ethiopia. the non-blacks changed all the history. so the real religion is Tewahedo Orthodox Christianity you find it in ethiopia (black race, black history, blacks writing).

CopticLion Says:

lmarr07 Says:

Jan 13, 2011 - @CopticLion Therefoe it doesnt matter who was darker han who, bcuz the bottom line is that they were dominently black people. Many black people turn from God bczu the believe Christianity is the white man's religion but thats not true. Christianity is ALL man's religion and Africans had a significant role in Biblical history.

Egypt and Ethiopia have a long strong Orthodox relationship that dates back for 1700 years! May our partnership in God and Christ continue!!! Do not listen to the guy "waffiki" he is not even Christian. He is a Rastafarian go ahead and ask him, he will not deny it. God bless!

CopticLion Says:

May 12, 2011 - @DemocracyCountsx whos said that?Coptic people are the Native Egyptians(sons of old Pharaons today) even the Coptic Language come from the old Egyptian language, but it's updated & use Greek Alpha Beta to make it easly!!coz Egypt was under Alexander the Great then old Greeks before Romans for example when Turkish Update their Language from Arabic font to Latin font today....we just use some greek words & Greek prayers in our Coptic Orthodox Church coz we take some good things from Greek calture

DemocracyCountsx Says:

May 12, 2011 - @CopticLion Thankyou CopticLion, i was having a disagreement with someone and he said that the Coptics were descended from Greeks and i say no there were descended from the Pharos, thank you for your kind words and the confirmation of what i more or less said. Jul 16, 2011 - Excellent. Thanks for sharing. Just a minor correction. The image at 0.49 second of the video is for Pharaoh Akhenaten. You also show Akhenaten on the following slide next to Nefertiti.

raidio1 Says:

Sep 14, 2011 - @CopticLion Come on now, LOSE the SELFISH pride & admit that the ancient Egyptians were different skin tones NOT just tan & it is FACT that the Egyptians of the delta range from Beige to tan brown skin but NEVER white & I know you know that the South Egyptians from Aswan to Luxor were & still are JET-BLACK to MAHOGANY BROWN skin, but most importantly, we are at WAR with these Psuedo white Supremist, Jews & Arabs trying to DEAFRICANIZE our history, so join the FIGHT to save TRUE African History.

raidio1 Says:

Sep 15, 2011 - @CopticLion If you are a TRUE Egyptian, DO NOT side with FOREIGNERS to NEGLECT your DARKER (or BLACKER) South Egyptian brethen, because they are DARK & have kinkier curlier hair, because it was ETHNIC division between North and South that cause civil wars in ancient Egypt and also the FALL of Egypt but a UNITED Egypt was always a STRONG and PROSPEROUS Egypt FEARED by FOREIGNERS, I know you have your PRIDE as a Copt but don't make the mistake of NEGLECTING a fellow African to side with FOREIGNERS

raidio1 Says:

Sep 15, 2011 - @CopticLion And we as African Americans get it all the time from Egyptians, AH "your not Egyptian" "so leave our culture alone" but those uneducated MODERN DAY Egyptians forget about the FACT that the 22nd Dynasty and 25th Dynasty came from Libya and Kush and restored Egyptian greatness BUT it was mainly from the EAST and North were the DESTROYERS of Pharaonic Egypt came from and is also were 90% of modern Egypt descend from but I hope your spirit is NOT like theirs, PEACE and Africa UNITE.

minasoliman Says:

Sep 26, 2011 - It's clear from heiroglyphic evidence that Egyptians have always viewed themselves as "tan" or "brown" and they made that distinction by drawing Africans with a "black" skin color, even under the 22nd & 25th dynasties. The idea that Egyptians were black is a false idea, unfounded except through Black pride emotions. It's just as strange as saying Jesus was black, when in fact,He was Jewish. No one is saying Jesus was white, but let's not distort history just to falsely increase a race's self esteem.

MLGMajorityFFA Says:

Oct 6, 2011 - this is the video we use for our church tour at Saint George/Joseph are you a part of our congregation?

MontChevalier Says:

Oct 9, 2011 - @minasoliman I really think it's silly when people determine things according to something as trivial as race. There is no one true almighty race, right? Seems silly to me. Whether Jesus was black, white, brown, hell if the guy was friggin Chinese, I would still believe.
