Mar 10, 2010 - The Memphis pilot had his sighting on Nov. 24, 2009. On that date the Space Shuttle was docked with the ISS, day 9 of an 11-day mission. STS-129. And yes it was visible over Memphis that night, and it levelled out in the sky just as he saw. No doubt in my mind he saw the ISS. His recollection of time, however, is not accurate. His sighting was at 6:40:00pm and not 9:40:00pm as stated. Well, it was almost 4 months ago so he can be forgiven for that error. Too bad nobody does their homework.

Apr 13, 2010 - @ufoguy1962 and i guess the space station moves 1000 miles per hour while holding a triangle shape? maybe his recollection of time isnt wrong, maybe your theory is. ive seen the ISS many many times. ive never thought it was a triangle, and ive never been able to judge at what speed its moving due to the many many many miles above the earth it floats, its kinda hard to judge speed from that distance.

May 25, 2010 - @aPOTg The ISS is in orbit at around 350 kilometers or 217 miles above earth. It travels at 7 kilometers per second or 15,659 mph. The lower it gets to the horizon, the faster it appears to be moving. It would have been very bright that night with the shuttle docked.

May 31, 2010 - @ufoguy1962 217 miles above the earth. 73 miles from the ground to the upper atmosphere. thats almost 300 miles. at 300 miles with the size of the space station, is going to appear as a bright star. a mote of light. NOT a triangle. and the shuttle (which is much smaller than the space station) would not account for much extra brightness, if any, and does not account for a triangle shape.

Jun 3, 2010 - @aPOTg The ground is considered part of the Earth. Regardless of how many miles to the atmosphere, from ground to ISS is 220 miles. The ISS is the brightest moving object in the sky. Have you ever seen it go by at -3.5 magnitude? It is so bright at that magnitude it will freak you out. For the millions of people who have no concept of the ISS, a light like that moving through the sky can only be a "ufo."

Jun 6, 2010 - @ufoguy1962 as true as that can be (because i have seen the space station and wondered WTF is that) it still doesnt explain the triangle shape of the craft this pilot witnessed. and the disagreement here between us is not weather or not the ISS can be misconstrued as a ufo, its weather the pilot in this case made the mistake.

(btw, no three aircraft would be flying in formation in MEM Class B Airspace). In response to the scheptic....My first flying job was with the US Customs and Immigration Service flying a modified P-3 Orion in which I was trained as an aerial observer....I know what is in the air. This was NOT anything that I was aware of being possible- I have over 11,000 hrs

May 15, 2011 - well tn police where shooting at whatever it was and that pilot is in a rubber room paid by tn police,that you can count on.tn cops have stated over and over again that UFOs are not real so we don't waste our time on reports on stupid things like that. but these are same police that bow down every morning and worship a photo of WALKING TALL SHERIFF BUFORD PUSSER there god..just my opinion
